JA10ant A great small truck April 16, 2020 LE 4X4 Crew Cab
Overall Score
I purchased this truck used and it now has over 157,000 km. I have never had any large expensive repairs and the Nissan Service has been very good. I will admit the fuel economy was horrible when I first bought it but lately it has been very good, not sure why it's gotten better as it's gotten older? It did have a minor rear-end collision and the body shop did a poor job repairing and the tailgate and bumper which were replaced have signs of poor fit and paint flaking with rust starting in very small spots. Overall I'm very happy with the truck. I have had a small Datsun King Cab and a Ford Ranger prior to this and the Nissan is much better. The driver's seat has taken a beating and I think it's got a lot to do with getting in and out at such a height.

Issue: On certain trucks, the bead area of the tires may have been damaged when they were mounted onto the rims. Over time, this damage could create an air leak that can lead to a tire failure. Note: This problem may also affect the spare tire on certain trucks. Safety Risk: A tire failure could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Nissan will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and replace the affected tires.

On certain vehicles equipped with a mechanical key ignition system, a spring in the ignition switch could wear and break. This may allow the ignition key to inadvertently move from the ON position to the accessory (ACC) position while driving, causing the engine to shut off and the airbag system to lose power. The resulting loss of motive power, and change in steering and brake forces could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Additionally, in the event of a crash, this may also cause the airbags not to function. Correction: Dealers will inspect the lot number of the ignition switch, and replace it with a new one if it is affected. Note: Until the correction is performed, owners are advised to remove all objects from the ignition key ring, such as additional keys, key chains, etc.

On certain 2wd vehicles, the front hubs may have been manufactured incorrectly and could crack. This could allow the wheel to wobble, causing a noticeable vibration and, as a result, the driver may experience difficulty controlling the direction of the vehicle. Ultimately, the hub may break, allowing the wheel to separate from the vehicle. The errant wheel assembly could strike a vehicle, a stationary object, or a bystander. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace both front wheel hub assemblies.

On certain vehicles, the engine oil cooler stud (onto which the oil filter is mounted) could fail. This could cause an engine oil leak, which could illuminate the instrument panel's engine oil warning lamp. Abnormal noise and rough engine performance may also be noticed and, in the worst case, the engine could fail and stop suddenly while the vehicle is in motion. Engine failure would result in lost vehicle propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the engine oil cooler connector stud.

Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 110 - Tire Selection and Rims. The French-language wording displayed on the tire placard does not fully comply with the revised requirements of the Standard, which came into force on September 1, 2009. As the variation in the French text is minor, and all required safety information is displayed on the placard, no corrective recall action is required. This technical non-compliance is deemed to be non-safety related.

On certain vehicles, corrosion may form in the lower steering column joint and limit the movement of the joint. Limited movement of this joint may create excessive load on the lower steering column shaft and, if the vehicle continues to be driven in this condition, may lead to cracking of the shaft during low speed manoeuvres that require large steering inputs. In an extreme case, the shaft may break which would result in loss of steering control and could result in a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace the affected column shafts and joints.

On certain vehicles the Intelligent Power Distribution Module (IPDM) assembly contains an Engine Control Module (ECM) relay that has a diode for electrical current noise reduction. The ECM relay may allow silicon vapor to form and over time the silicon evaporates from the diode molding which causes silicon oxide to develop on the ECM relay contact due to arcing. In certain instances, this oxidation could cause engine performance issues (hesitation, rough engine idle, slow start/no-start condition), and engine stalling at low engine speeds which may result in a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) relay.

On certain four-wheel drive vehicles, the joint portion of the front driveshaft may contain small cracks. These cracks may eventually lead to a failure, resulting in separation of the front driveshaft. If the driveshaft failed while the vehicle was moving, a loud noise would be heard. If the vehicle were in 2WD mode, the driveshaft would come to rest on the frame cross-member, and the vehicle could be operated normally. On certain vehicles, the molded fuel tanks are slightly thinner than specification in the area under the fuel sender unit. This may allow the tank floor to deform causing the fuel sender float to interfere with other features inside the tank. This could cause the instrument panel fuel gauge to show a fuel level of approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty. An inaccurate fuel gauge can lead to engine stalling while driving, which may increase the risk of a crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Letters will be sent to owners in two stages. The first letter will advise owners of fuel gauge inaccuracy and recommend maintaining a fuel level above the one half position.
