Volkswagen Jetta 2001Change

I've had this car for almost 6 years and wow what a journey. The car has been fairly reliable but has had issues regularly. Over the years I have spent between 800- 2000 a year in maintenance as I had issues from overheating to sensor problems. Would I recommend? Yes if you are handy and you can do some of the work yourself. No if you need a mechanic to do oil changes, brakes, alternator etc. In my opinion, they balance out when you only use a mechanic a few times. The car is fairly easy to work on too.

100 km per 5.4 litres diesel fuel. A very reliable vehicle. I owned a Jetta TDI for 9 years. No problems .
Regular maintainence. Runs smooth and clean.

Requireda larger vehicle to tow a house trailer, otherwise I would keep the VW.

I had my car now for about 5 years and it runs great. Excellent on gas, no problems at all, and I'm at 179000 KM.

The Jetta diesel is a good little car wich was noted for its fuel economy. I have mixed reviews about the car. On the plus side, economy is great. Improvements include, too low to the ground so in winter the snow ruts rip off the bottom protective engine cover. Volkswagen must be aware of this as many experience the same problem. The cup holders are poorly situated (right in front of the center heat vents making keeping things cool pretty difficult). Repairs can also be expensive for the car.

I only had to fix the interior, finding new parts which are a bit expensive. But other than that it is a great car and runs well, fast and accelerates really good. SInce it is a turbo I fill it up with 91 octane gas to improve performance.

This a great entry car into the the European style of car. This was my first VW and I am glad to say that I will be buying one of these again in the future. In regards to maintenance, it is a tad more expensive but it is not done as often as on other vehicles. To put it simply if you take care of this car it will take care of you.

I did own this car and brought it up to 325,000km. The TDI Diesel model is very fuel efficient and extremely reliable. I even used it in Quebec's winters down below minus 30 degrees in the morning and never had an issue starting it without having a block heater. I enjoy this car, travelling across Canada from Quebec to Vancouver a few times with my family. I personally prefer diesel compared to hybrid because they they offer comparable fuel economy at a lower cost. Maintenance cost was limited to timing belt every 100,000km (500$ expense) and usual maintenance like brakes and sensors. I also had problems with front windows and engine lights coming up often. Good car in general.

I bought this car already used so I had to be prepared to some problems. So when I had to change a couple of things it wasn't a great surprise for me.

But all in all this car doesn't disappoint me. It is a very heavy car so I feel safe on the road. The fuel consumption is quite reasonable for such a car, I'm rather pleased with its appetite, especially on the highway. And I just love how it goes on a big speed - smoothly and steadily.

Good and comfortable car, I wouldn't mind to have the same one but new.

Super comfortable wish plush bucket seats. The ride was nice and smooth. Very good on Fuel, you definitely get what you expect. The interior is dated and I think they always have been. Only gripe about the Jetta, The dash lights went (fairly common), and apparently you have to take the steering column apart to replace the lights. Big Job. I never did replace the lights.
